With respect to risk–I think that what is going on is that your husband doesn’t perceive some things as risky while you do. Hence, he seems more comfortable with it. I think that Mrs. Gamer and I have the same divergence of views. You go along with what you perceive as risky because of your confidence in your husband. Mrs. Gamer likewise having confidence in me. I tend to not plan short trips–I just throw stuff in a bag and go. If I’m gonna be gone 2 weeks in another country–that’s when I plan a little. I also enjoy seat-of-the-pants navigation. Risk that involves more than one major unknown is too much for me to take on.
I’ve tried dealing with more than one major unknown and that doesn’t work well. When I was working as a software developer (Ton, feel free to junk all your gadgets that use software; good luck, heh), there were times where I had to deal with a new software language, a new compiler, several new libraries, a new business project, interfacing with all our legacy software and systems, and being on a strict, unrealistic timetable.
